President's Letter

by Michael B. Zlatkin, M.D., FRCP(C)
With this issue of the CMRS Vision, we continue our quarterly E Zine format. The Vision is a quarterly newsletter dedicated to excellence in clinical MRI imaging. Our mission is to provide up to date, clinically relevant information, in all the subspecialty areas of MRI, in a format and manner that is easily understood and applied by the practicing radiologist.

The Vision continues to be one of the most valuable and useful aspects of CMRS membership. Most of us are extremely busy in our daily practices, with more and more demands on us for clinical work, and less time to spend reviewing the literature and staying abreast of new developments. The E Zine can provide an easily accessible means of communication to help keep abreast of new developments, and review the essentials of relevant topics. We recognize its value and importance to our members, and we want to be certain we cover topics of interest, and present valuable clinical information in our increasingly complex and busy practices. We hope that this is the case for you the members, and if there are areas or topics we are not addressing, or suggestions you may have as to how we can improve the content and format of this journal, please let us know. As always we invite the members to make their own contributions to the E-zine, either as articles, or cases of interest.

In this issue our focus is on MSK MRI. Articles include throwing injuries of the elbow, MRI imaging of wooden foreign bodies, and meniscal tear patterns.

I would like to remind everyone of the annual meeting this June in Orlando. Once again it will be held at the Loews Royal Pacific Resort at Universal®.  We have a revised and revamped program, with emphasis on imaging protocols, and essentials of clinical imaging in the three main subspecialty areas of musculoskeletal, neurological and body MRI. As in last years program, there will be subspecialty clinical content SAMs including content in Breast and Cardiac MRI, and there will be a technologist breakout program.

I continue to be honored to serve as your president. There are many challenges ahead for radiologists.  Further cuts in reimbursement from Medicare and private payors continue to loom over us. There is still uncertainty as to the shape and nature of upcoming health care reform, and how this will impact imaging, but without doubt there will continue to be further pressure on reimbursement for imaging, and MRI in particular, as reports continue to implicate and target imaging services as a cause of increased health care spending, and a prime source of for continued cuts in spending. The CMRS is committed to working with other societies as an advocate for practicing radiologists combating these challenges.

I hope you find this edition of the E-Zine useful to you in your practice. I hope that you will join us in June in Orlando, and continue to maintain your affiliation with the CMRS, and help us all continue to keep it vibrant and strong for all of us who benefit from it.
